Wood Park Celebrates Dot Day in Discovery Den

Dot Day has become a full-week celebration at Wood Park.
Alexa Armentano’s second graders were among the classes who visited technology teacher assistant Cheryl Towle on Thursday in the primary school’s recently opened Discovery Den.
After reading Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot as a class, the students enjoyed rotating among three stations.
In one spot, they colored in a dot, then used the Quiver app to make their two-dimensional drawing come to life as a 3D animation. In another spot, the students used computers to design pixel art. And in a third spot, they coded Bee-Bots to search for assorted dots on a course.
The annual International Dot Day officially took place on Monday.
The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who challenges a doubting student to trust in her artistic ability by being brave enough to “make her mark.” What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage.
